We Live For This goes on the road!

“Where are you going with those?”

Our taxi driver eyed our ski bag with confusion, wince we just arrived to Stockholm in full sun and 18 degrees C.

The stunning Swedish capital was just a landing point last month, though: our sights were set north. WAY north.

A 90-minute flight, where we watched all the lake beneath us (SO many lakes) gradually turn from blue water to solid ice, took us the length of Sweden, inside the arctic circle to the town of Kiruna.

We went from this:

Ahh, Stockholm. What a stunning city.

To this:

Ahh, Kiruna. There’s mountains somewhere here, right? Right?

Another 90 minutes, this time by car, landed us in the freeride capital of Sweden, Riksgränsen.

Sweden is known for producing great skiers, but not necessarily known for its mountains. But there are mountains! We were amazed! They’re different, they’re beautiful, and they really look like you’re in the arctic.

We lucked out with some great weather and even better snow, and scored powder turns in treeless expanses with long-time clients and dear friends, Johan and Stina.

As strange as it feels, it’s great for us to be customers at another operation, have great conversations and get re-inspired on what we do. It’s important to re-connect to what it’s like to be you, travelling to a dreamed-of destination, hoping for unforgettable skiing and memories that’ll last. It’s not only a super fun holiday, but a way to remember a client’s perspective.

Our heli-skiing adventures in Riksgränsen were hosted by Mountain Guide Travel. We had the pleasure of connecting with the owner and IFMGA Mountain Guide, Andreas Bengtsson, a couple years back here at Purcell.

Now it was time to turn the tables and visit his home turf. And are we ever glad we did. Mountain Guide Travel offers trips all over the world, from Swedish Lapland to the Alps to Canada (including to Purcell) and Japan. We recommend them highly!

After Sweden, we drove into Norway to continue to dream trip, ski touring, sea-side scrambling and even a day of arctic surfing. It was epic.

Yodel subscribers got the full report, including more photos, video and tales of Norwegian adventure.
